The Black Girls Don’t Get Love Mini-Producing Lab is an opportunity for girls of color and allies, grades 7 to 12, to practice creating their own pitch decks based on the published Black Girls Don’t Get Love book. Our team of media industry professionals will teach our students the fundamentals of producing, such as independent financing, pitch preparation, marketing, and networking. 

The primary activities included in the Mini-Producing Lab are (5) workshop sessions over the course of three days, and one pitch event. At the end of the program, students in the Mini-Producing Lab will have the opportunity to pitch their story concepts to a panel of media industry judges at a public event in front of their family, friends, and community members.

The winning pitch deck will be purchased by the Black Girls Don’t Get Love production company and be considered for inclusion in the Black Girls Don’t Get Love television series. The purpose of the Black Girls Don’t Get Love Mini-Producing Lab is to empower girls of color to tell their own stories and provide them with the skills they need to be successful filmmakers by teaching and critiquing them at a Hollywood-standard level. 

The Black Girls Don’t Get Love Mini-Producing Lab meets both New York State Learning Standards for the Arts, and the National Core Arts Standards, while also providing a creative and engaging approach to addressing DEI and low literacy rates.
