Celebrating Black girlhood, one program at a time.

Black Girls Don't Get Love is a book and multimedia coming of age brand for girls of color. Our mission is to use media to turn silence into language and change the way Black women and girls are perceived in society.

Our developing non-profit arm, Black Girls WILL Get Love, Inc. facilitates all of our philanthropic initiatives such as the acclaimed Black Girls Don't Get Love Prom, the Black Girls Don't Get Love Slumber Party, the Black Girls Don't Get Love Outdoor Exploration, and the  Black Girls Don't Get Love Film Training Program. Within less than two years of being established, we have served over 150 girls, secured over $70K in brand sponsorships, and been recognized with (2) CNY Business Journal awards for our impact in the Central New York area and beyond.

During the summer of 2023, we hosted the Black Girls Don’t Get Love Film Training Program, an opportunity for girls of color ages 13-25 to experience a Hollywood-standard film production process in Central New York. The program garnered national interest, and twenty-two girls of color and allies from across the country (representing 10 different states) traveled to Syracuse, New York to receive hands-on experience in the pre-production, production, and post-production process. Our students took courses in producing, directing, acting, cinematography, post-production, lighting, and audio. With the success of the Film Training Program, we now offer our educational workshops to school districts, colleges, and universities. Our Screenwriting Workshop curriculum has been approved by a New York State Board of Education, and we have been contracted to teach the program in an Upstate New York school district.

Our next initiative is to turn the Black Girls Don’t Get Love book into a television series for streaming. This television series is necessary because the coming of age genre is grossly lacking in Black female representation. This lack of youthful Black female representation is harmful because it has the potential to create an adultification bias towards Black girls, as depicted in a 2017 Georgetown Law Center on Poverty and Inequity Study, which found that “adults view Black girls as less innocent and more adult-like than their white peers, especially in the age range of 5–14.”

Black Girls Don’t Get Love Founder & CEO, Eden Strachan built an academic argument around the need for the Black Girls Don’t Get Love television series and presented it in her recent TEDx, entitled “Who Gets to be the Girl Next Door?” Strachan’s talk looked at the lack of Black female representation in the coming of age genre and how it represents the erasure of Black girlhood in mainstream society.

We are currently seeking investors and sponsors of any kind, to help us reach our $1.5M television pilot fundraising goal.

Black Girls Don’t Get Love is not merely a children’s book, a television series, or a prom – it is the first step to build a world-wide initiative to address the erasure of Black girls' experiences in society. We have a lot of work to do, but are proud of the community we are building and thank you all for being a part of it. Working together, we’re hopeful that someday soon, #blackgirlswillgetlove
